Somaliland came out with a press statement denying the allegations from the Somalia government. The statement by the self, exiled republic of Somaliland, comments that Berbera is part and inalienable of the Republic of Somaliland.

According to the press statement that was released by Somaliland, “Somalia has neither jurisdiction, authority, nor any standing over the territory or agreements of Somaliland. All the Somaliland-UAE agreements have always been and continue to be lawful, legitimate, and binding.”

The statement further alleges that Somalia is not a party to the agreements and that it is not even a guarantor of any agreement that has been reached by Somaliland.

Therefore, it continued, Somalia does not have the legal right to interrupt, change or take any other actions regarding such agreements.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the above, Somaliland suggests that any move by Somalia to do such a thing would be legally null and void, and this would be contrary to the international law.

Somaliland is a northwestern region of the Horn of Africa, a self, declared, self, governing state for all practical purposes, a de facto country, positioned on the southern coast of the Gulf of Aden, sharing borders with Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia, having its capital in Hargeisa, and is not yet widely recognized internationally as a sovereign nation.

Up until now, support for Somaliland has come from countries such as Israel, with its independence recently recognized by nations such as Ethiopia and the UAE.
