On Saturday morning, a US-Israel attack on Iran resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The US President, Trump, urged Iranians to “take back their country” and called Khamenei “one of the most evil people in history.”

According to several reports, there are celebrations in several cities in Iran, while others mourn in the streets.

Mojtaba Khaledi (Iranian Red Crescent’s spokesperson), stated that the strikes were carried out in 24 of Iran’s 31 provinces. The couple of satellite footage shows significant damage to the Ayatollah’s Leadership House compound in Tehran.

In the early hours of Sunday, Iranian state media confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed at his office.

According to the BBC, 201 people have been killed, including at least 108 in an explosion at a girls’ school in southern Iran.

In response, Iran’s elite IRGC targeted the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The targets also include other US bases in the Gulf region. There are also reports of strikes in cities such as Dubai, Doha, and Kuwait being circulated in global media. It is said that after the event at Dubai International Airport, there were four people who got injured. There were also reported strikes on Bahrain International Airport.

After the demise of the Ayatollah, the president, the head of the judiciary, and a senior cleric from the powerful Guardian Council will take charge on an interim basis. Then, the Assembly of Experts will select the next successor of the Ayatollah.

For the past couple of months, the US and Israel have been eyeing the hardline cleric, Ayatollah.

G7 leaders are meeting with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on Sunday to discuss the current situation.
