According to the latest US military update by Dan Caine, around 5,000 strikes on Iran were conducted, significantly degrading Tehran’s military capabilities. During his briefing, he stated that an “unprecedented number of sorties” over Iranian territory were carried out targeting key military infrastructure.
Caine further added that the US attacks have made the Iranian navy ineffective by reducing its ability to conduct maritime operations in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes are aimed at neutralizing Iran’s ballistic missile systems, drone capabilities, and weapons storage facilities. In the military briefing, it was also shared that Washington targeted factories and depots where weapons are produced or stored.
United States Central Command also confirmed that four of the six crew members on board were killed in the recent crash of a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker over western Iraq.
In the same meeting, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that Iran’s new supreme leader is in hiding and “wounded” and “likely disfigured.”
In a separate operation by Israel over Lebanon, the Israeli military has been dropping leaflets over Beirut urging people to rise up and help ensure that Hezbollah is disarmed.
Meanwhile, due to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, energy prices are skyrocketing. In response, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that “everything” should be done to prevent “profiteering” amid the recent US-Israel war with Iran.
