Meanwhile, Pakistan is faced with a very difficult diplomatic problem. First, it wants to keep its facilitating role in the US-Iran dialogue despite failed in first attempt but on the other, it needs to keep its defense commitments to Saudi Arabia. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US Vice President JD Vance including Iranian authorities in Islamabad. This was almost the highest-ranking direct meeting between Washington and Tehran since the Iranian Revolution.

Saudi Arabia stated that Pakistani troops arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Province of the country following the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement between two countries signed last year. According to the Pact, Pakistan’s deployment should be interpreted as a gesture of friendship and alliance towards Saudi Arabia.
