Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral election of New York City. Right after his victory, he visited a Nepali restaurant in Jackson Heights, known as Laliguras Bistro. He was seen having lunch with his Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). Both were spotted enjoying milk tea, potatoes, chow mein, and momo.
New York, being the world’s financial center, the position of Mayor of this city is considered vital in the US.
Mamdani, who is 34 years old, is close to South Asian culture because his mother is of Indian origin.
Jackson Heights is one of New York City’s most multicultural neighborhoods, and it has been home to a large number of Nepali, Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and other South Asian immigrants.
Mamdani’s preference to have lunch in a Nepali restaurant matter, as it shows the power of the growing Nepali diaspora in the US.
