What is happening in the Middle East is dangerously tense. The shaky two-week ceasefire between Iran and the U.S. was further broken when Iran stopped shipping traffic in the very important Strait of Hormuz. This action alarmed the whole world as it was related to energy supply and shipping security.
The US President Donald Trump has doubted that the ceasefire will last. He had blamed Iran for blocking oil transit and that the US forces would still be in the region. Moreover, he stated that fighting could start again if talks fail. On the other hand, Iran’s president has pointed out that Israel breaching the ceasefire by bombing Lebanon. Iran is ready for counterattack if Israel continues.
At the same time, there are negotiations going on with U.S. and Iranian teams being in Islamabad for talks. Trump showed some hopeful signs albeit cautiously. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is interested for discussions with the Lebanese side. However, the Hezbollah demands a ceasefire as a precondition for negotiations due to Israeli air strike that killed more than 300 peoples in Lebanon. It has made international community to condemned Israel severely. As a retaliation, Hezbollah also launched a rocket.
Even with the ceasefire, Netanyahu has openly stated that Israel’s overall strategic goals are still the same. He further explained that it involves getting rid of Iran’s nuclear weapons option either through ongoing fighting or reaching an agreement.
